About Frode Jacobsen
An ever-increasing passion for the natural world and the environment that sustains us has guided me through life. As an avid birder from early childhood back home in my native country of Norway, my quest for knowledge and understanding of nature drew me towards academia and a career in biology and science. My avian studies led me to Canada where I met my American wife Mary, and eventually to Baltimore, Maryland where I received a doctorate in Biology in 2011. An interest in wildlife photography formed during my visits to Canada, and quickly became the primary focus of my nature walks. Today, I consider myself a photographer first and birder second. In fact, most of my time during spring, summer and fall is spent pursuing macro photography of insects, amphibians and reptiles. I continually strive to learn new tools of the trade, and dream of someday being able to support myself as a nature photographer. Through my photography I hope to inspire a connection to nature, and appreciation of the urgency to preserve natural habitats and biodiversity both locally and globally. I hope you enjoy exploring my art!
